Digital forensics is a branch of forensic science focused on the recovery and investigation of material found in digital devices. Most modern, complex frauds and asset recovery investigations require such capability.

The primary goal of digital forensics is to preserve, analyse and present digital evidence in a manner that is legally acceptable in court proceedings.

The integrity and authenticity of the information being analysed is paramount, requiring forensics experts to use specialised tools and techniques to ensure that the evidence is not tampered with or altered.

Digital forensics encompasses several sub-branches, including computer forensics, network forensics, mobile device forensics and forensic data analysis. Each deals with different types of data and devices.
