Unique Aerial Robotics Challenge made possible with MKS Law support

MKS Law sponsors ground-breaking Aerial Robotics Challenge held in BVI schools recently.

Children across the British Virgin Islands were able to take part in a unique Aerial Robotics Challenge, thanks to a partnership between the Lions Club of Tortola, the Ministry of Education, Youth Affairs and Sports and DRIFT Enterprises Ltd*, which was supported by (among others) MKS Law.

A series of half-day aerial robotics workshops were held at the Elmore Stoutt High School, Cedar International School and the Bregado Flax Educational Center from Monday 16th March to Thursday 19th March.

It culminated with an Aerial Robotics Challenge and Drone Soccer Demonstration at the Multipurpose Sports Complex on Friday 20th March during the annual National Science Fair.

Lions Club Tortola President, Lion Faith Dawson, explained:

“When students see technology up close and realize that these industries are within their reach, it can change the way they think about their education and their potential. Partnerships like this allow us to connect global expertise with local opportunity.

“The DRIFT Team has generously donated their services including the planning and execution of the workshops and challenges, as well as the use of their specialized equipment to make this initiative possible.”

President of DRIFT Enterprises, Dervon McKellop, said:

“We believe that the Caribbean must not only consume technology but create it. By introducing students to aerial robotics at an early age, we are helping to build the next generation of innovators, engineers, and digital leaders.

“DRIFT is committed to ensuring that our youth have the skills, exposure, and confidence to compete globally while solving problems right here at home. DRIFT Enterprises is here to show students what’s possible when Caribbean talent meets cutting‑edge tech.”

Lasting impact

MKS Law was delighted to provide sponsorship support to this important educational initiative, alongside Conyers, Riteway Food Markets, The Bookshelf Limited, House of Luxury, Newton Construction Company Limited, Maples Group, O’Neal Webster and Klass Electronics.

All participating students in the Aerial Robotics Challenges received a BBC Micro:bit microcontroller, a programmable device allowing students to continue experimenting with coding, electronics, and digital innovation after the workshops and competition, supporting ongoing STEM/STEAM learning and creativity.

Additionally, each member of the winning team received an educational drone, enabling them to continue developing their skills in drone coding, flight control, and robotics experimentation.

*DRIFT Enterprise Limited is a Caribbean-based technology, geospatial, and emerging technologies company headquartered in the Cayman Islands, providing advanced solutions to governments, regulated industries, educational institutions, and private-sector organisations throughout the region.
